Thailand discovers 15 more coronavirus cases; no new cases in migrant detention centres

Thailand’s government said on Sunday that it had discovered 15 new coronavirus infections bringing the total number of infected to 2,922.

There were no new fatalities with the death toll still at 51

547 more patients have recovered from the virus bringing the total number of discharged patients to 2,594.

Government spokesman Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin said that there were no new additional cases in migrant detention centres after revealing on Saturday that the government had discovered 42 cases in the detention spaces.

The news on Saturday had prompted concern from the public that Thailand might see a spike in cases similar to Singapore which has reported thousands of cases among its migrant worker population.

“We will keep monitoring the detention centres and extending our humanitarian help,” said Dr Thaweesin.
