Thailand discovers one new case of coronavirus in Chiang Mai

The Thai government said on Thursday that it discovered one new case of coronavirus infection.

The new case was a Chiang Mai man who had worked previously in Phuket.

That brings the total number of cases to 3,018.

There were no new fatalities in the last 24 hours with the death toll still at 56.

Six more people have recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,850 cases.

112 patients remain in hospital.

Government denies hiding infection numbers

Government spokesman Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin said in a press conference on Thursday that the government was not hiding the number of coronavirus infections within other diseases.

Dr Thaweesin said that the number of cases of pneumonia or other lung diseases which might cover for coronavirus was not different from other years, meaning that the government was not trying to hide the disease numbers.

There were rumors floating around on social media accusing the government of attempting to hide the numbers.
