#SaveRome trends on Thai twitter after rumours spread online of campaign against Move Forward MP

The twitter hashtag #saveโรม (#saveRome) began trending on Friday morning after rumours circulated online that powerful people within the Thai establishment were unhappy with the conduct of Move Forward MP Rangsiman Rome.

The Move Forward MP has made headlines recently for his vocal opposition to Thailand’s lese majeste laws (section 112 of the criminal code) in parliament and also for bringing up the disappearance of activist Wanchalearm Satsaksit in Cambodia.

Wanchalearm is thought to have been disappeared by the Thai state.

Thai Netizens on Friday used the hashtag to voice their encouragement and support for Rangisman Rome and also to criticize the establishment and the state for using violence and fear as intimidation tactics.
