Serbian footballer in Buriram tests positive for coronavirus

A footballer from Serbia has tested positive for Covid-19, the government’s emergency coronavirus centre said on Saturday.

The footballer, who had flown into Thailand on a private jet before being taken to alternative state quarantine in Buriram, has tested positive, one of two positive cases confirmed by the government on Saturday.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration spokesman said that the footballer has tested positive and was now being treated in hospital.

According to sources at the Department of Immigration, the footballer was able to enter the country legally as he had a work permit and also had a Thailand Elite Card.

Thailand’s football community has speculated that the person in question may be newly signed Buriram United striker Marko Scepovic.

Calls to the Buriram United press office were unanswered.
