Bangkok extends filing period for land and property tax to the end of October

Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang will extend the filing period for land and property tax until the end of October according to local media reports and press statements.

The filing date has already been extended twice due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and will be extended once again until the end of October.

The new land and property tax took effect at the start of the year but was extended to give taxpayers more leeway in paying for the taxes.

Non-performing loans and unpaid taxes are major concerns for the Thai government as Covid-19 has economically devastated the country with the central bank predicting negative growth for the year, with the most optimistic estimates at an 8 per cent contraction.

The new law will require all owners of residences, farms, commercial and undeveloped landholdings to pay a new property tax. Principal homes are exempted up to 50 million baht.
