Thailand discovers one new case of coronavirus on Wednesday; global cases now up to 27.7 million

Thailand’s government said on Wednesday that it had discovered one case of coronavirus in the last 24 hours in alternate state quarantine.

The patient is a 38-year-old Japanese film producer, who entered Thailand on September 4 and tested positive while in quarantine on September 7. 

The new discovery brings the total number of cases up to 3,447 cases.

There are no new fatalities leaving the death toll at 58.

Two persons have recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours. This means that the total number of discharged patients is now at 3,286.

Currently, 103 people remain in hospital.

Global situation 

There are now more than 27.7 million confirmed coronavirus cases globally. On Wednesday, it was reported that 247,538 cases were found within the past 24 hours.

More than 19.8 million people (71.5 per cent) have recovered from the infection and more than 900,000 (3.3 per cent) have died from the disease.

Currently, there are around 60,400 patients being treated as severe cases.

More than half of the global confirmed cases were found in three countries.

There were more than 6.5 million confirmed cases in the US alone, followed by 4.3 million in Brazil and 4.1 million in India. Russia has already reached the dreaded one million milestone as well.  

On Wednesday, India reported 89,852 confirmed cases and 1,107 deaths followed by the US’s 28,656 cases and 498 deaths and Brazil’s 17,330 and 516 deaths.
