The completely arbitrary, crowdsourced, soundtrack to the rebellion

Student protests, like any good movement, needs a soundtrack so without further ado, we present to you the completely arbitrary, crowdsourced soundtrack to the current rebellion.

While the songs were crowdsourced, they were filtered and curated (by me). Feel free to subscribe to the Spotify Playlist.

We will also include YouTube links further down and the part of the song that most represents the current protests.

Lorde Royals

“And we’ll never be royals (royals)
It don’t run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain’t for us
We crave a different kind of buzz “

Uprising – Muse

“They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious
(So come on)”

City With No Children – Arcade Fire

“When you’re hiding underground
The rain can’t get you wet
Do you think your righteousness
Can pay the interest on your debt?
I have my doubts about it”

Up Against the Wall – Tom Robinson Band

“Darkhaired dangerous schoolkids
Vicious, suspicious sixteen
Jet-black blazers at the bus stop
Sullen, unhealthy and mean
Teenage guerillas on the tarmac
Fighting in the middle of the road
Supercharged FS1Es on the asphalt
The kids are coming in from the cold”

Street Fighting Man – The Rolling Stones

Hey, think the time is right for a palace revolution
‘Cause where I live the game to play is compromise solution
Well then what can a poor boy do
‘Cept to sing for a rock ‘n’ roll band

Only the Young – Taylor Swift

They aren’t gonna help us
Too busy helping themselves
They aren’t gonna change this
We gotta do it ourselves
They think that it’s over
But it’s just begun

Revolution – The Beatles

You say you’ll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it’s the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead

Talkin’ Bout a Revolution – Tracy Chapman

Don’t you know
They’re talkin’ ’bout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper
And finally, the tables are starting to turn
Talkin’ bout a revolution

Rise Up – Andra Day

All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And for that we have each other
And we will rise
We will rise

My Generation The Who

Why don’t you all f-fade away (talkin’ ’bout my generation)
And don’t try to d-dig what we all s-s-say (talkin’ ’bout my generation)
I’m not trying to ’cause a b-big s-s-sensation (talkin’ ’bout my generation)
I’m just talkin’ ’bout my g-g-generation (talkin’ ’bout my generation)

Changes – David Bowie

And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They’re quite aware of what they’re goin’ through

People Got to Be Free – The Rascals

You should see
What a lovely, lovely world this’d be
Everyone learned to live together, ah hah
Seems to me
Such an itty bitty thing should be
Why can’t you and me learn to love one another?

Eve of Destruction – Barry McGuire

Yeah, my blood’s so mad, feels like coagulatin’,
I’m sittin’ here, just contemplatin’,
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation,
Handful of Senators don’t pass legislation,
And marches alone can’t bring integration,
When human respect is disintegratin’,

You’ll Never Walk Alone – Marcus Mumford*

*Not Gerry and the Pacemakers because don’t want to be accused of stanning LFC too much

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart

And You’ll Never Walk Alone
