On Wednesday, the courts ruled that the leaders of the ironically named Peoples Democratic Reform Committee were guilty of occupying government buildings and trying to obstruct the 2014 election.
The leaders, wizened by the passage of the years, looked sympathetic as they left the court after the verdict. Many of these old men and women had their bail denied and spent the night in jail. Three cabinet ministers, no doubt rewarded their post for their roll in the ascension of Prayut Chan-ocha, lost their positions.
But any sympathy or sentiment that might be spared in their direction should be withheld. Remember the crimes that they committed over half a decade ago and remember what has happened the country since.
While the court ruled that none of the PDRC leadership were guilty of treason, I find it hard to believe that there is anything more treasonous than standing in the way of democratic elections and serving the country on a platter to the military.
Let us remember that this was not some half-cocked protest that was fighting against corruption and the excesses of the Shinawatras. No, there was undoubted collusion between the leaders of the protest, the Election Commission, the armed forces and the police to IGNORE the democratic process and usher in a putsch.
You, and you know who you are, the whistle mob with your Facebook selfies, your Thai flag-adorned whistles, were only too happy to serve as pawns for Suthep Thaugsuban, Taya and Nataphol Theepsuwan as they brought about seven years of military rule.
And having ruled for seven years what has the country got to show for it? Corruption is just as high under the this government, accountability is at an all time low, and street protests once again engulf the nation in crisis.
Meanwhile the cabinet is filled with sycophants, drug dealers, loudmouth illegal loggers, and military generals.
Was it all worth it?
There should be no sympathy for any of the men that will spend the next 5-7 years in prison. They delivered the country to the devil. They should be made to rot in jail.
