150 Covid cases in new Bang Khae cluster

A new cluster in Bang Khae has led to 150 cases, the government said on Thursday.

“There are now three important clusters” across the Bangkok area, “in Khlong Toei, in the Bon Kai community in Pathumwan, and Baan Khing community in Bang Khae,” said Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

The CCSA reported on Wednesday that the Khlong Toei cluster had led to 304 cases at 41 crowded communities within the district between April 1 and 30.

The Pathumwan cluster has led to 162 cases within six crowded communities in and around the Lumpini area, including Pattana Bonkai, Keha Bonkai, Polo, Phra Chen, Ruamrudee and Kularb Daeng, between April 5 and May 4.

The Bang Khae cluster has led to 150 cases at the Mall Bang Khae and Ban Khing Primary Care Unit between April 28 and May 4.

The CCSA conducted 1,413 proactive tests at the Bang Khae shopping mall between April 28 and May 1 which resulted in 68 confirmed cases.

Four transport workers at a bus station near the department store have also tested positive for the virus during a proactive test operation there.

This then led to the proactive testing at Ban Khing Primary Care Unit which came up with another 78 cases. There are around 1,000 people living in the community.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) said on Tuesday that they are planning to conduct around 1,000 proactive tests at known clusters per day.

They have reported on Thursday that 42,251 proactive tests have been conducted at entertainment venues, markets, department stores and communities in Bangkok between April 5 and May 5 which resulted in 1,677 cases. The results from 559 tests are still pending.

“The results from the proactive tests at high risks venues in Bangkok show that out of every 100 tests, four cases will be found,” Taweesin said.

“This is why we have to always wear our face mask in public place and crowded area because we do not know who has already contracted it,” he added.

The top 10 districts with the most cases in Bangkok between April 1 and May 5 include Huai Khwang (463), Din Daeng (426), Bang Khen (357), Chatuchak (356), Watthana (330), Lat Phrao (325), Wang Thonglang (300), Suan Luang (290), Bang Kapi (282) and Bang Khae (241).
