Thailand’s vaccine plan by the numbers

The Thai government plans to procure 100 million vaccine doses and inoculate 50 million people by the end of the year.

They have procured six million doses of the SinoVac vaccine and 117,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine so far.

1.65 million people have so far received one vaccine shot and 892,245 have received two doses. Thailand has a population of 69 million people.

More than 7.4 million people have registered to be vaccinated through the government.

Siam Bioscience, the local producer of AstraZeneca vaccines, aims to produce six million doses by June. However, Thai Enquirer, understands that there has been a problem scaling production and the target will not be met. (Read more here)

The Ministry of Public Health said this week that other vaccines are incoming. Here is the plan:

  • Pfizer – A delivery of 5-10 million doses is expected for the second half of 2021
  • Moderna – Expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2021
  • Johnson and Johnson – Expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2021
  • Sputnik V – Still at the initial stage of negotiation
