Test and Go will return in February, some restrictions to be lifted

The registration for the Test and Go program will resume on February 1 and certified restaurants will be able to serve alcohol until 11 pm, the government said on Thursday.

“The mortality rate is lowered than projected and it is maintaining…only 33 per cent of the 147,000 hospital beds in the country are occupied,” said Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, the spokesman of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

“Since the situation is gradually improving, there is going to be more relaxation of the restriction measures,” he said.

Thailand reported 8,129 new Covid cases with 19 related fatalities on Thursday. Currently, there are 82,734 Covid patients who are being treated at hospitals (40,696) and field hospitals (42,038). Of that, 533 are in critical condition including 118 on ventilators.

New zoning

The state of emergency had been extended for the 16th time until the end of March.

The number of “controlled” provinces (orange), where moderate restriction measures to prevent the spread of Covid are being applied, was reduced from 69 to 44 provinces.

The number of “highly monitored” provinces (yellow), where less restrictions are being applied, is now 25 provinces.

The number of “Blue Zone” provinces, where tourist sandboxes are located, was maintained at eight provinces including Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Chonburi, Kanchanaburi, Phuket, Krabi and Phang Nga.

The new zoning will come into effect on January 24, according to the CCSA’s presentation.

Alcohol measures

SHA+ or Thai Stop COVID 2 Plus certified restaurants that observe the Covid Free Setting protocols in the 25 highly monitored provinces and the Blue Zone will be able to serve alcohol until 11 pm instead of 9 pm. SHA+ means 70 per cent of the staff are vaccinated.

Taweesin did not specify when the new alcohol selling hours at restaurants will come into effect.

Entertainment venues could ask for permission to reopen from local authorities when they are ready, no further detail was given.

Test and Go

The registration for the Test and Go entry procedure for vaccinated travelers from every country will begin on February 1.

Travelers must book at a SHA+ accommodation or an alternate quarantine hotel in advance, be insured with a minimum coverage of US$50,000 and pay for the RT-PCR tests on arrival and on the fifth day after arrival.

The tourist sandbox in Chonburi will also be extended to cover Bang Lamung, Si Racha, Ko Si Chang and Sattahip (only Na-Jomtien and Bang Sare) on February 1. Trat province (only Ko Chang) will be added to the Blue Zone as well.
