Thailand’s recently approved actor tax exemption will pave the way for Thailand to become Asia’s go-to film and content production hub, a major Hollywood producer told Thai Enquirer on Thursday.

Thailand’s cabinet approved, in principle on Tuesday, an actor tax exemption which will allow productions to bring in foreign stars without having to negotiate fee and time-spend in Thailand.

The exemption will make clear a previously grey area which caused concern from Hollywood studios looking to shoot in Thailand.

“We’ve already gotten feedback from the studios and they’re understandably ecstatic that this exemption has passed,” said Nicholas Simon, head of Indochina Productions and producer on Netflix’s Extraction and Avengers: End Game.

“This is one of the most progressive film policies in the world and shows how serious Thailand is about becoming a world class production destination.”

According to Simon, Thailand is now among the world’s most attractive production hubs rivaling Australia’s Gold Coast, Canada’s British Columbia, and Hungary.

“This legislation was down to the hard work of the Thai Film Office and makes sure that Thailand is already the premiere destination to film in Asia, you already have the best film crews in the region” said Simon.
