The first Songkran Festival in three years went by with fanfare and celebration.
A quick recap:
There were early concerns that the celebrations could end tragically when Khaosan became crowded. Good policing alleviated the situation and prevented a repeat in the following days.
General Prayut Chan-o-cha joined in the festivities in Khaosan as well.
The University of Thai Chamber of Commerce said on Sunday that this year’s Songkran spending by both Thai and foreigners could exceed 140 billion baht compared to the pre-Songkran estimate of 123 billion baht.
There were 1,744 recorded traffic collisions during the festival period up 17.2% year-on-year already.
More than 1,700 people were injured with 197 deaths.
For those traveling back to work, the Department of Disease Control warned on Sunday that they should monitor themselves for Covid symptoms for at least seven days before coming in close contact with people in vulnerable groups.
