Bumrungrad Hospital Partners with BGI Shenzhen and Bangkok Genomics Innovation to Advance Genomic Medicine Services

Bumrungrad Hospital has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s BGI Shenzhen and Bangkok Genomics Innovation to enhance its genomic medicine services.

Advancements in genomics have lowered the cost of human genome sequencing, broadening medical applications and improving diagnostics and treatment precision, ultimately benefiting patients.

Genomic medicine has notably advanced diagnosis and treatment for rare or complex conditions by revealing disease mechanisms and facilitating targeted therapies and accurate diagnostics. Overall, genomic medicine improves treatment selection, planning, and early disease detection.

Bumrungrad Hospital emphasized the importance of advancing genomics in research and clinical practice. The partnership with BGI and Bangkok Genomics Innovation aligns with the hospital’s commitment to advancing patient care through technology.

Dr. Artirat Charukitpipat, CEO of Bumrungrad International Hospital, highlighted genomic medicine’s potential to personalize treatments and predict health issues, aiming for preventive care. The partnership signifies a strategic commitment to improving lives through shared expertise.

Dr. Polakit Teekakirikul, Chief Scientific Officer at Bumrungrad Genomic Medicine Institute, explained that this collaboration aims to advance personalized healthcare, refining patient outcomes through genomic insights.

Professor Wang Jian of BGI Group anticipates that this partnership will advance medical research and treatment understanding, contributing to improved patient care.

The MoU signifies a significant step in integrating genomic technology into clinical care to enhance patient well-being sustainably, Bumrungrad said.

Bumrungrad Hospital was recently named Hospital of the Year in Thailand at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2024 in Singapore, with Dr. Artirat receiving the CEO of the Year award.

Healthcare Asia Magazine annually recognizes outstanding performance in the Asian medical industry and bestows awards.
