Opposition, government prepares for censure debate

Thailand’s coalition government and the opposition coalition are making preparations for a censure debate scheduled for later this week.

The opposition coalition submitted a no-confidence motion late last week to the speaker of the House of Representatives and say they are prepared to censure several cabinet ministers over the government’s poor showing.

Sources within the ruling coalition told Thai Enquirer that they were confident they would pass through the censure debate unscathed.

Phumtham Wechayachai, adviser to the Pheu Thai Party, told reporters that issues that the opposition would likely press the government on were its poor handling of the economy, an ongoing budget crisis, its response to the coronavirus outbreak and its poor handling of Bangkok’s pollution problems.
