Thailand confirms 33 new coronavirus infections; no new fatality

The Thai government said on Saturday that it had discovered 33 new coronavirus infections and now new fatalities.

The new confirmed cases bring the total number of cases to 2,733.

It is the first time in weeks that there have been no fatalities from the virus with the death toll remaining at 47 dead.

98 more people have recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,787.

Pauper government

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said on Friday in a televised address that he would be approaching the 20 richest families in Thailand to ask for their help in combatting the virus.

The government has passed three stimulus packages worth 1.9 trillion baht and Prayut had said last week that the government does not have the money to pay for its cash handout package to the poor.

It is unclear what he would ask of the rich families but the government came under criticism from social media users who used the hashtag broke government to voice their displeasure.
