Thailand cuts red tape for visitors

Official said on Thursday that Thailand is launching a new system to replace certificates of entry to shorten the process for visitors as the country is reopening.

“Visitors registered in this system will receive a Thailand Pass QR Code to display to the airline and officials without filling TM6 and TM8 forms at the local immigration office.” said Thanakorn Wangnoonkongchana, Government spokesman.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has collaborated with the Digital Government Development Agency (DGDA) to launch a system called Thailand Pass to facilitate the documentation process as the country reopens on November 1.

The Thailand Pass is required for 46 approved countries and one territory listed without quarantine, including Thai or international visitors under the Sandbox program.

Those who wish to enter Thailand can register in the system at tp.consular.go.th from November 1. Travel and health information can be collected and uploaded before traveling.

The approval processing will take 1 to 3 days.

Once it is approved, visitors will receive a QR code to present at the immigration office.
Visitors are recommended to apply 7 days before the departure.

Those pre-approved can submit documents and request a certificate of entry (COE) from the embassy and the Consulate General up to November 7.

Those who have received a COE already can use the it to request a refund directly from a registered hotel.

The web-based system is designed to reduce unnecessary procedures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, along with driving the economy in preparation for reopening for visitors.
